Headlines Overwhelm Stocks
Friends
The headlines are simply overwhelming the markets. Greenland, tariffs, Japanese bonds, the 10 -year Treasury Note, and that’s just to name a few. It’s a big week for earnings, but with the President and all the bigwigs in Davos this week, I’m not sure anyone will notice. Well, we will anyway.
As for today, by the close the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 870 points to finish the day at 48,488. The S&P 500 was down 143 points to close at 6,796. The Nasdaq Composite Index was down 561 points to close at 22,954. Gold was up $163 to trade at $4,758 per ounce, while oil was up $1.09 to trade at $60.53 per barrel WTI.
Most of the big tech names report next week but we get several important reports this week including United Airlines, Netflix, J&J, P&G, GE, Travelers, Abbott, and Halliburton. But, as I mentioned, headlines out of Davos might dictate market direction this week. We’ll let you know how it all plays out.
Have a nice evening everyone.
