Stocks Mixed Before the Storm

As the country waits for the winter blast, stocks had a trading day with mixed results. The Dow sold off, while the Nasdaq saw modest gains. It really felt like market participants had other things on their mind. Next week we have a Fed meeting to deal with and a bevy of earnings reports from big tech companies including Apple, Amazon, Meta, and Tesla. We will get Google and Amazon the following week.

As for today, by the close the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 285 points to finish the day at 49,098. The S&P 500 was up 2 points to close at 6,915. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 65 points to close at 23,501. Gold was up $68 points to trade at $4,981 per ounce, while oil was up $1.81 to trade at $61.17 per barrel WTI.

So, after a difficult week the tech stocks rallied today while the rest of the week’s winners took a pause. That tees us up for the next two weeks. Will tech earnings turn the recent tide for the shares or will it provide the evidence for a further retreat. Stay tuned.

Be safe and stay warm the weekend, everyone.
