Stocks Mixed As Tech Struggles

It was a mixed bag for the market averages. The Dow moved up nicely while the Nasdaq struggled. Some big losses in some of the chip names sent the tech heavy Nasdaq lower. Interestingly enough, we will hear from Google today after the close and Amazon tomorrow. Both are likely to see some volatility as have the other big tech growth names this earnings season.

By the close, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 260 points to finish the day at 49,501. The S&P 500 was down 35 points to close at 6,882. The Nasdaq Composite Index was down 350 points to close at 22,904. Gold was up $33 to trade at $4,965 per ounce, while oil was up $1.31 to trade at $64.52 per barrel WTI.

Today’s ADP private payroll number came in lighter than expected and it appears we will not get the non-farm payroll number scheduled for Friday, until next week. So in the meantime, we’ll see what Google and Amazon have to say for themselves, as we move through the rest of the week. Stay tuned.

Have a nice evening everyone.
