Stocks Quiet without the Bond Market
Friends
With the bond market closed for the Columbus Day holiday, stock traders were left to fend for themselves. The market averages were mixed with the Dow higher and the Nasdaq lower for the trading session. Next up is earnings season and later in the month a Fed meeting.
By the close, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 195 points to finish the day at 51,850. The S&P 500 was down 4 points to close at 7,807. The Nasdaq Composite Index was down 120 points to trade at 27,245. Gold was down $23 to trade at $4,192 per ounce, while oil was up $1.54 to trade at $93.39 per barrel WTI.
First up on the earnings calendar are the big banks with JP Morgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, and Wells Fargo tomorrow and Bank of America, Morgan Stanley, State Street, and BlackRock on Wednesday. Other big names to report this week include, Johnson & Jonhson, United Health, Domino’s, Schwab, and Travelers. Then over the next couple of weeks, we’ll get earnings from most of the rest of corporate America. Should be a busy few weeks. Stay tuned.
Have a nice evening everyone.
