Slow Start To Second Half

Stocks didn’t get off to a very good start to the second half of the year, as the market averages all ended lower for the day. Will the big-name tech stocks recover from their sizable losses in recent weeks, or will other sectors have to carry the water in coming months? Let’s first see what earnings look like as companies report over the next several weeks.

As for today, by the close the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 13 points to finish the day at 52,305. The S&P 500 was down 16 points to close at 7,483. The Nasdaq Composite Index was down 173 points to close at 26,040. Gold was up $29 to trade at $4,067 per ounce, while oil was down $1.40 to trade at $68.10 per barrel WTI.

Just one more trading day before the holiday weekend. Let’s see if market participants have any appetite for stocks before the weekend barbeques.

Have a nice evening everyone.
