Quiet Start to the New Quarter
Friends
The yield on the 10-year Treasury Note backed off a bit this afternoon which allowed stocks to have a little breather after yesterday’s selling into the close of the quarter. Oil prices were higher, which didn’t help, but the bulls at least had one out of two to hang their hat on.
As for today, by the close the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 20 points to finish the day at 50,926. The S&P 500 was up 14 points to close at 7,666. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 10 points to close at 26,871. Gold was up $21 to trade at $4,207 per ounce, while oil was up $2.76 to trade at $92.18 per barrel WTI.
We get a look at the all-important non-farm payroll number tomorrow. Estimates are that there were about 90,000 new jobs created in September. This will be an important data point for the bond market and the Fed. Let’s see how the week finishes out tomorrow.
Have a nice evening everyone.
